One thing I love about summer is that one friend and I always make it a ritual to turn our weekly run at the gym into a bi-weekly event in the forest and there's not much better than that. I went to my first writer's course this week and I was given a picture of a forest and 5 minutes to write. An ode to one of my favourite summer rituals, my friend and our friendship came out. September will soon hit and we'll be waiting for the forest again...or enough snow to cross country ski! Image from www.fitforadog.ca Rhythm of Summer misty idyllic damp rustling of branches from the forest beyond rhythmic crunching of two sets of feet eternal discussions of children, jobs, life....our days complaints of aching muscles and that extra glass of wine summer morning runs

My husband and I used to run in the park too with this kind of view, but lately I prefer running in the oval track with the rubber track surface that's easier on the heels and the feet. I could imagine the fun you must have had though. Lovely poem.

I love summer (fall, winter, spring) running! Perhaps as you said, running in the forest is the best. There is something very fresh about breathing with the leaves. Loved your poem.

"rhythmic crunching of two sets of feet" -- sounds wonderfully therapeutic! That's how I feel about my walking as well.
